HAH ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION

Location: The HAH Library in the Bridgehampton Community House

1) VOLES! Since it has been the gardening and lawn topic of the summer, many calling it a cyclical epidemic, we will begin with a discussion of how to get rid of them as well as other pests.

2) A SUMMER LOOK-BACK: successes and challenges. Did you get inspiration from the garden tours?

WORKSHOP: Planting Bulbs for Spring Color

Location:  Bridge Gardens, 36 Mitchell Lane, Bridgehampton

This workshop will be held indoors in the event of rain

Join us for a workshop in partnership with Summerhill Landscapes, Bridge Gardens and theHorticultural Alliance of the Hamptons.

Planning and planting for the spring garden starts now!  Meet at Bridge Gardens for a workshop with the professionals at Summerhill Landscapes, and learn how to properly design with – and plant – a variety of bulbs that will provide early to late spring color to your garden.

Presentation will include information on sourcing, selecting and planting bulbs.  Every attendee will receive some bulbs to take home.

$10/person, free to Bridge Gardens and Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons members.

Space limited.  Registration and Pre-paid reservations are required.

Reservations must be made through Bridge Gardens, 631.283.3195, as Summerhill will need to know approximately how many are attending in order to have enough bulbs for everyone.

LECTURE by DARYL BEYERS  

FABULOUS FALL & WINTER CONTAINERS

Daryl Beyers, has over 20 years of professional landscaping experience specializing in residential garden design and development. As Coordinator of the Gardening Certificate Program at the New York Botanical Garden Daryl helps guide their curriculum and also teaches gardening and garden design classes to hundreds of students each year. While a staff writer, photographer and editor for Fine Gardening magazine he authored two special issues on garden design (Great Gardens Vols. 1 & 2) and more recently served as Contributing Garden Editor for Martha Stewart Living. His articles on gardening and garden design have also appeared in Horticulture, HGTV Magazine, and Real Simple. Daryl’s landscape design and development firm, Daryl Beyers, LLC, is based in Fairfield County, Connecticut.

Come browse many wonderful slightly worn books on gardening and horticultural topics, as well as tools, pots, vases and more donations from members. There will also be an array of plants dug and donated by members from their gardens. And if you have something to donate, bring it in during regular Library hours in August, or before Sept. 10, please.

THE HAH KARISH SEMINAR THIS YEAR WILL BEGIN WITH A LOCAL GARDEN TOUR OF THREE SHADE GARDENS IN BRIDGEHAMPTON FROM 10-12 AM

TO BE FOLLOWED AT 2 PM BY A LECTURE GIVEN BY NOTED GARDEN WRITER AND PLANTSMAN, KEN DRUSE

Ken will speak on “Gardening in the Shade at a Time of Climate Change”.

Additionally there will be a reception, book signing and a selection of shade-loving plants available from Glover Grown Perennials.

The Karish Seminar is an annual event that features exceptional speakers and experiences in support of HAH’s education activities, including our scholarship fund. The cost is $125 per person.  Check the September Newsletter for more details about this exciting event.
